Sea Star II - Our Favorite Places
One of the questions we get asked the most is of all the places we have visited on Sea Star what is your favorite place. It would be impossible to have just one place that Cindy and I would call our favorite, if we absoultely had to choose just one place we both agree it would be the Azores. However here are the places we think are the most unique and stand out for us.
The Azores are approximately 2,500 miles east of Washington DC and 900 miles west of Lisbon, Portugal.

In 2BC Augustus Caesar banished his libertine daughter Giulia to Ventotene, a tiny Mediterranean island just south of Rome. With no natural harbor one was dug out of solid rock as shown in the photo on the left.
Amalfi Coast: Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi: Slideshow 2009 - Slideshow 2013
In Southern Italy, the Amalfi Coast is a 28-mile winding narrow route of dramatic coastline that's home to some of the most beautiful towns and stunning panoramas in Europe. Nearby is the famous island of Capri, Sorrento and the historic ruins of Pompeii. We love to anchor off Positano and collect sea glass from a secluded beach. This area is at the top of the list of our favorite places in the Med.

Aeoilian Island: The Isole Eolie (Aeolian Islands) are located off the northern coast of Sicily.
We first visited the islands in 2009 and again in 2013. The island of Stromboli is the first island we stoped at after sailing from Positano about 110 NM to the north. Arriving at 4AM we witnessed the active volcano erupting every 20 to 30 minutes. As long as there are historical records, Stromboli has been constantly active, which makes it almost unique among the volcanoes in the world.
Stromboli
Lipari: Perhaps one of the most beautiful anchorages we have been to. Lipari is located 25NM SW of Stromboli and 34NM NE of the Messina Straits(Sicily). The island of Vulcano lies to the south less than a 1/2 mile from Liparis southern tip.
