Update 05

Bonjour,
Since I last wrote we left Sanary and motored/sailed to an island which I can not pronounce, the anchorage was in a small cove called Port Man. We took the dinghy to shore and had a nice walk up to an old fort built around 1635, unfortunately they were doing some work on it and it was not accessible. The next day we went to St. Tropez. I called the marina for a berth, when I told them my length, 11 meters, they said all full. I believe Sea Star was much too small for this marina. There is a large anchorage by the marina so we anchored there next to some extremely large yachts and sailboats. One yacht had a helicopter on it! We were rather disapointed with St. Tropez, very packed with tourists and not an attractive harbor area. It was Barbara's birthday, Megan baked her a cake on board, we had a nice evening . The next day the plan was to go to a marina close to Cannes and take the bus to Cannes and look for "stars" as it was the last day of the film festival. That did not work as all the marinas in the area were full so we continued on to Nice, getting a berth in Nice Marina. Today we took the bus to Monaco which I last visited in 1972. We all liked Monaco very much, a Pano of the harbor is attached. The worlds largest single mast sailboat can be seen, look for the mast that towers over everything. The name of the boat is Mirabella V: http://www.mirabellayachts.com/mirabella5/
Check it out, you can charter it for a mere $ 400,000.00 a week! After Monaco we stopped Villafranchese, which is the next harbor east of Nice. A very interesting village, not crowed, beautiful harbor and old winding streets.
I have been able to load the last two slide shows, one is of our stop at the Calanques the other of Sanary sur Mer.
